Cambodian Genocide Institute- Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid has reveiled her design for the Sleuk Rith Institute in Phnom Penh. Five wooden towers, inspired by ancient Angkorian architecture, will house the institute. As the towers rise, the structure will interweave and link, which will connecrt various departments above the ground level and uniting the institutioin as a single whole. Below are some pictures of the design

Once again, I do not take credit for images in this post since I found them at http://www.archdaily.com/555976/zaha-hadid-designs-five-wooden-towers-to-house-cambodian-genocide-institute/5437ede5c07a802a6900000e_zaha-hadid-designs-five-wooden-towers-to-house-cambodian-genocide-institute_sleuk_rith_institute_south_facade___memorial_park_-jpg/

Private Spaces- Taylor Howes

"(...) Taylor Howes has carved a unique niche in the market where impeccable design constantly meets expectations. With a dedicated team of talented and very approachable designers, the practice has grown into one of the most successful companies in its field (...)"

In my opinion, the project below not only shows great refinement and technique, but personality, and that is what sets these homes apart. Taylor Howes projects can be clearly identified due to their amazing design and contrasts.

The greenery found throughout the project create a really cosy atmosphere as you would normally not expect to find something like this indoors. It is an amazing feature that truly complements a project.

Once again, the table lamps are amazing. They create this design feeling to the room and attract people to it. They most definitely are the eye-catching opulent design feature in this light coloured bedroom

On the right, you can see that the artwork really lights up the room and gives it an unique refinement. The vases for the plants and the vases for the candles on top of the fireplace are simple accessories that light up the mood in the room

The dining area is complemented with a magnificent light fixture which conveys a modernistic bling. Also the office table on the right is very "clean" and provides the room with unexaggerated decor yet eye catcing and brilliant

As you can see, all of these rooms show a soft colour pallet, which creates a "clean" environment and makes it very pleasant. There are iconic decorations and always a very eye catching piece of furniture.

Private Spaces- European Home

I guess the only think I didn't really write about is architecture itself. The concept of designing exterior amazing looking masterpieces that complement all styles around the globe. In this post I will be mainly focusing on modern private spaces. I have decided to use various images so you can clearly get an idea of the property and its aspects. Throughout this project modern styling was incorporated in the design so in a few years from now this will not be seen as an old house. This is one of the most important aspects of a home: it is an ongoing project.

Private Spaces- Apartment in Portugal

I decided to go with the same interior designer as my first post, so I could show a clear contrast between something public to something private. As a private space, it shows personality and an unique taste. This two-floored apartment is decorated to entertain guests as well as owners. What clearly bonds all of the different furniture together are the works of art, which inhabit the different colour pallet for each division of this home. This apartment is different to an ordinary apartment, mostly because it incorporates uncommon features, for example the green carpets throughout the project. I guess this really sets this home apart because it is able to create an amazing atmosphere without being overworked. The simplicity, yet extravagance in this home sets it apart from any other project and that is what truly distinguishes it in terms of european design and architecture.

Above, is the entrance to  the apartment. The wall mirror truly is the focal point of this area of the house. It manages to fit perfectly in its place without creating the feeling of an overdecorated room.

A you can clearly see, this room is divided by a corridor. This corridor separates the living are from the dining area. Although this can sometimes be a tricky spot to decorate, the art piece sets the mood in the room and creates this excellent feeling of a luxury apartment

Public Spaces- Pizzeria in Portugal

Architecture isn't just a job, it's a way of life. It is, for some, a journey that lets them live their dream every day. It lets people do something about their passion and incorporate what they feel and see in their minds, and let it someday become reality. Architecture is quite a complex profession, filled with measurements and weird calculations. But it is also a profession that lets you think out of the box, create something different, special. Although it at times might seem quite simple, don't be mistaken, it is not but it is certainly a dream worth fighting for. I myself, as only a kid in school can tell you that my dream is to someday create a project of my own and satisfy the needs of future clients. Designing a house is such a personal opportunity. You basically are adopted into your client's personal life, his family, friends, likes... A home is such a personal place where you feel comfortable, not only in it but with it. It is an ongoing project, a vision that should not only focus on the present but also the future.
My first post is not quite as personal as a home. It is an old house in Portugal, which was restored by Oitoemponto (european designers) and made a restaurant. I wouldn't call it an impersonal project since this pizzeria is certainly personalised to fit it's owners requisitions, but it also sets a certain mood which attracts customers to it. This architectural project consists on almost a vintage look, but they have managed to keep a clean aspect to it. It is not under decorated, and certainly not over decorated, but it someplace in between. Below is an image of the main dining area in this restaurant.

As you can clearly see they have not only decorated the interior, but the exterior as well. This small space used to be an old derelict home which was sold and incorporated into a very popular restaurant. The exterior design of the restaurant consists mainly on neutral colours which add to that clean image I was talking about earlier. The door of the restaurant, as well as the bottle ice holders are red, which really stand out and create this modern yet vintage look to it.

Clearly, this is not everyone's taste in architecture, but throughout this blog I will be incorporating different styles of european design and architecture so it creates a mixture of styles and likes. Although this is not a very usual first post, I decided to go with it because it is different and not ordinary. It's just a way of thinking I suppose, that normal isn't extraordinary hence extraordinary is what gives something personality and a different feel. I have left some images below of the rest of this project so I hope you enjoy it.
